Partnering With Papuan Leaders

PHLI began from a request by the provincial leaders to provide Papua’s best and brightest youth with a local program to gain the necessary skills for university education abroad, so that Papuans might return home, equipped with degrees in higher education, better prepared to help build and empower Papua.

The provincial government partners with multiple language institutes, including PHLI. But because PHLI is distinctly Christian, we prioritize developing educational tracks for our graduates to attend universities that provide training emphasizing the importance of returning home to Indonesia as servant leaders.

PHLI is also working closely with our government and university partners to move toward greater accreditation so as to facilitate more extensive local educational opportunities in the future. PHLI seeks to eventually grow into a premier local university in Papua.

BPSDM

Each year PHLI receives students from the BPSDM scholarship program called Siswa Unggul Papua or SUP. Through the SUP program, students go through a selection process and are then sent to their language school partners. PHLI, as one of the BPSDM partners, offers a one-year “preparation and foundation” program to students, followed by a “Blended year” for students who meet the requirements for U.S. university enrollment. During the PHLI Blended year, students are expected to earn a minimum of 30 SKS with a GPA of 2.5 before they can move to attend classes in person in the U.S.

Through the partnership with BPSDM and SUP, PHLI students receive sponsorship for University tuition costs, living, and housing costs, as well as the cost of their transition to the U.S. Once students, are in the U.S, PHLI continues to help connect and maintain communication between BPSDM and Universities.

Kabupaten

In partnership with the regions (Kabupaten), PHLI conducts the enrollment of new students and the selection process. Once students are selected, PHLI sends scholarship proposals to the student’s regional government. Accepted students will attend PHLI and have the same academic expectations as students sponsored through the SUP program; by BPSDM.
